In Fall 2019, Student Success Initiatives staff represented The University of Texas at Austin at a number of professional conferences across the country.
Dr. Cassandre Alvarado, executive director of Student Success Initiatives, and Dr. Jennifer Smith, former University Leadership Network director, presented Aligning Institutional Support for Student Success: Case Studies of Sophomore-Year Initiatives at the National Resource Center on the First-Year Experience in Columbia, SC.
Dr. Alvarado presented MAAPS: Lessons Learned at the University Innovation Alliance convening in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Alvarado and Anneke Chy, deputy director of Student Success Initiatives, presented Texting in Academic Advising: Best Practices for Student Success at the National Academic Advising Association Annual Conference in Louisville, KY. At the same conference, Julia Chinnock, program coordinator, presented Advising for Experiential Learning with a colleague from the School of Undergraduate Studies.
Andreyez Alvarado, senior program coordinator, joined Texas One Stop colleagues Jennifer Love and Jessica Rodriguez to present One Stop Start Ups: Two Views at the National Association of College and University Business Officers’ 2019 Institute for Student Services Professionals workshop in Miami, FL.
Dr. Alvarado was joined by Senior Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Rachelle Hernandez and Senior Associate Director of Student Success Initiatives Dr. Emma Wu Dowd to present Re-evaluating Your Toolbox of Analytics at the Advanced Analytics Summit in Pittsburgh, PA.
At the NODA annual conference in Houston, TX, Dr. Alvarado gave the keynote presentation, titled Every Student Graduates: The Story of Texas.
Dr. Alvarado and Dr. Dowd’s paper, “Sense of belonging, supportive environments, and access to cultural capital: How institutional agents impact the college experience of low-income students,” was presented at the annual meeting of the Association for the Study of Higher Education in Portland, OR. Dr. Alvarado and Dr. Dowd were joined by Mike Gutierrez, senior program coordinator, to present the paper “Reimagining the narrative of student departure: Why do students leave late in college?” at the same meeting.
